Tab Organizer privacy policy
Last updated: November 1, 2026 (rev. 2)
Tab Organizer is a Chrome extension that helps you close stale, duplicate and rarely used tabs, park tabs for later, and sort the rest into tab groups. It is made by the PromptPilot team. This page explains exactly what it stores and what it sends.
The short version
- Almost everything stays on your computer, inside Chrome, including the local record of pages you visit.
- We have no accounts, no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
- We never sell or share your data, and we never read your page contents.
- Tab titles and host names leave your computer only when you use AI grouping (Tidy), and only to the AI service you picked.
What is stored on your computer
The extension uses Chrome's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) on your device. It keeps:
- Your settings and cleanup rules.
- A local record of the web pages you visit in normal (non-Incognito) tabs: for each page address, visit counts per day and time spent. It is used to spot tabs you rarely use. Tracking parameters and #fragments are removed, visit counts older than 30 days are deleted, and at most 3,000 addresses are kept.
- Tabs you choose to park (their titles and addresses), until you reopen or delete them.
- Weekly recap counts, remembered group names, and a short undo list that expires after 10 minutes.
- If you add your own AI key, that key. It is kept only on your computer and sent only to that provider.
- A random install ID, used only for fair-use limits on built-in AI.
None of this is synced or uploaded. Removing the extension deletes all of it. Pages in Incognito windows are never recorded, even if you allow the extension there.
What is sent, and when
Only Tidy (AI grouping) sends anything, and only when you start it. It sends the titles and host names (such as docs.google.com) of the tabs being grouped, plus the names of your existing groups. It never sends full addresses, page contents, cookies, or your visit history.
- Built-in AI (default): the request goes to our server at promptpilotai.in, which asks an AI model through the Vercel AI Gateway for group names and returns them. The model is currently Anthropic's Claude Haiku, with Google Gemini as a backup. Vercel and the AI provider process the request to answer it, under their own terms. We do not store or log the tab titles or host names; if a request fails we log only the error message. To prevent abuse we count requests per install ID and per IP address for one day, in memory only.
- Your own key: the request goes straight from your browser to the provider you chose (Google, OpenAI, Anthropic or OpenRouter). It does not pass through our server, and that provider's own privacy policy applies.
- No AI: grouping is done on your computer and nothing is sent.
Permissions
- tabs and tabGroups: read tab titles and addresses to find copies and stale tabs, and close, park or group tabs when you ask.
- storage: keep the local data listed above.
- sidePanel: show the extension in Chrome's side panel.
- alarms: run the cleanup rules you turned on, such as the weekly sweep reminder.
- Access to promptpilotai.in: reach the built-in AI. Access to an AI provider's site is asked for only when you add a key for it.
Children
The extension is not directed at children under 13 and collects no personal information from anyone.
Changes
If what the extension stores or sends changes, we will update this page and the date at the top.
